Biden admin orders agencies to search and detect ‘long COVID’

WASHINGTON (Nexstar) — The Biden administration has ordered a government-wide effort to execute a plan to find, detect, and treat what has been called “long COVID.”

Millions of Americans could experience COVID symptoms that linger long after the virus has run its course in the body.

“I had more like a blizzard of allergic reactions,” Kaine said. “One of them was kind of like, instantly, I felt like all my nerve endings were tingling.”

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) said he was one of those people who had to deal with a long COVID.

“And it’s been 24/7 for two years,” he added.

Symptoms can vary greatly.

“Neurological symptoms, heart symptoms, lung symptoms, muscle pain and fatigue symptoms” are among the lingering symptoms of long COVID, Kaine said.

He said if your body feels different than it did before you had COVID, you should see a doctor.

“The long COVID is real and there’s still so much we don’t know about it,” Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said.

Becerra said to help Americans battling a long COVID, President Joe Biden directed his department to establish a national action plan “leading a government-wide response to long COVID, focused on three goals. main”.

These objectives are:

  • Improving care, services and support
  • Improve education and awareness of public, private and medical communities
  • Advance research

“We will continue to assess and highlight the long-term effects of COVID-19 on our hardest-hit and most-at-risk communities and ensure they receive the support they need,” said Becerra.

Becerra said the agency will share real-time information on how to prevent, detect and treat long COVID.
