VIDALIA, La. — A shooting in Vidalia turned into a chase when a suspect fled the scene in his truck, law enforcement officials said.
A man, who authorities say was Robert Tolbert, 48, arrested in Natchez on Thursday afternoon after a multi-agency vehicle chase, allegedly fired several shots near Country Estates on Ralph’s Road in Vidalia. No one was injured in the shooting and the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
Public Affairs Director Brandy Spears of the CPSO said Tolbert fled to Natchez but the shooting was not a drive-by as he was not in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. .
Charges against Tolbert from the CPSO are pending because Tolbert is being held in the Adams County Jail, she said. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office charged Tolbert with a felony hit and run.
When Tolbert, driving a red Dodge truck, crossed the Mississippi River bridge on US 84 on Thursday afternoon, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Natchez police joined the chase.
Law enforcement followed the high-speed truck over the bridge, over Government Fleet Road, to River Terminal Road, then to Lower Woodville Road before crossing John R. Junkin Drive to Homochitto Street, then up Martin Luther King Jr. Street before Tolbert was finally caught on Main Street just before the Krewe of Killarney’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Tolbert was reportedly arrested at Andrews Tavern on Main Street after he left the truck and led officers on a brief foot chase.
