Dane County Agencies Conduct Joint Stolen Vehicle Operation


MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from other local and state agencies, conducted a joint operation Thursday targeting vehicle thefts and resulting in three arrests.

The agencies carried out several traffic checks during the four-hour operation. The operation resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle in the city of Madison, three additional arrests, the recovery of two firearms and the recovery of “a significant quantity” of controlled substances, according to the office Dane County Sheriff.

Charges for the 21-year-old, 26-year-old and 24-year-old who were arrested are pending investigation by multiple agencies involved.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens to continue to secure their residences and vehicles and to remove valuables, firearms, keys and garage door openers from their vehicles. Citizens must not leave their vehicle running and unattended.

According to the sheriff’s office, stolen vehicles have been used to commit other crimes in the area, such as gasoline thefts, robberies, burglaries, drug dealing and shootings.

Agencies involved included Wisconsin State Patrol, Madison Police, UW-Madison Police, Monona Police, Fitchburg Police, Maple Bluff Police, Deforest Police, of Middleton, Sun Prairie Police, McFarland Police, Verona Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

This operation occurred at the same time as the accident involving law enforcement cruisers and another vehicle on Thursday afternoon, but the vehicle involved in the accident was not declared stolen.
