Federal agencies to hold wildfire hiring events


Events are scheduled for November 5 and 6 in Redding and November 19 and 20 in Northridge.

Je Bureau of Land ManagementNational Park Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service, announced they are holding two hiring events to fill 200 fire and support positions in California and parts of Nevada, for the 2023 wildfire year.

The first of two hiring events will take place Nov. 5 and 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Red Lion Hotel (1830 Hilltop Dr.) in Redding. A second hiring event will take place November 19-20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at California State University, Northridge – University Student Union (18111 Nordhoff St).

According to the release, hiring managers will be on hand at these events to answer questions, review resumes and help those interested in fire positions navigate the application process. Some job offers can be made on site.

“Our need to build a year-round firefighting and fuel management workforce has increased dramatically alongside the historic fire activity of the past decade,” said Peter Kelly, Deputy Regional Coordinator. of Fire Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service. “To meet this demand, we encourage enthusiastic and energetic individuals who are looking for a rewarding career in wildfire management to apply and visit us at these hiring events.”

Federal agencies will hire forest firefighters, engine captains, forest helpers, forest technicians, apprentice firefighters, dispatchers and a helicopter crew supervisor.
