Ban employment agencies
Weighing in on the video, an angry Atwoli urged the government to ban all employment agencies that negotiate job offers in foreign countries.
The trade unionist implored President William Ruto to follow in the footsteps of ex-President Mwai Kibaki. The latter banned all the aforementioned agencies.
“That’s what I said, it’s indirect slavery, I want to call on our government to do what Mwai Kibaki did. With Phylis Kandie as Minister of Labor, Kibaki banned all employment agencies who were exporting labour,” Atwoli said.
Going forward, the COTU boss has proposed that the issue of Kenyans migrating to Saudi Arabia be handled on a government-to-government basis.
