Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez on Monday announced $2.14 million in funding for celebrations and community projects marking the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, a day before Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, arrive in Canada for a three-day tour. .

“Over the past 70 years, Her Majesty has been a constant presence in the lives of many Canadians and has cultivated lasting ties to Canada through our rich cultures and traditions,” the Department of Heritage said in a statement.

The funding will support 360 community events and three major national projects.

“For more than 70 years, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been a model of dedication and a privileged witness to the growth and achievements of Canadians, as well as the values that unite us,” said Rodriguez. “That is why I am pleased to announce the funded projects that will allow Canadians across the country to learn more about our sovereign, celebrate this historic anniversary and reflect on the meaning of public service in the society of today.
